About Us About Us

OneThing is more than this website. It's more than a communications campaign. It's more than an energy expo. It's even more than all the energy saving tips. OneThing is a movement. So it's not made up of ads and events. It's made up of people. And hopefully, that will come to include every man, woman and child in Connecticut.

Where did OneThing come from?

Late in 2006, Governor Rell introduced Connecticut's Energy Vision for a Cleaner, Greener State. In it, she outlined a number of widespread initiatives and policies aimed at creating measurable ways to reduce the cost of energy for consumers and businesses, strengthen state energy policy over the long and short term, and reaffirm Connecticut's position as a leader in renewable energy.

A key part of this Vision was a plan to promote energy efficient behavior among all residents and businesses. Early on, the developers of this portion of the Vision realized it would take more than a few well-meaning ads, websites and tip lists to get results. It would take an effort that truly demanded the public's attention, captured the state's collective imagination, changed attitudes, encouraged widespread participation and facilitated real changes in behavior. In a word, it would take a movement. And OneThing was born.

Fueling the OneThing movement is this website and an 18-month communications campaign culminating in the OneThing Expo to be held at the Connecticut Convention Center, October 10-12, 2008.

Specifically, OneThing is managed under the auspices of  the State of Connecticut's Office of Policy and Management.
